Avery sang Gabriella in the local theater group's version of High School Musical, and in her hometown choir.
She was discovered at the age of 14 by manager/producer Aton Ben-Horin from The Agency, who saw a video of hers on YouTube. With the help of Avery's parents, he flew her to Plush Studios in Orlando, FL, where they wrote and recorded her first single, "Love Me or Let Me Go." The music video was filmed 2 weeks later, by Chris Grieder. Her second single was released on iTunes May 28, 2011, called "Go Screw Yourself (GSY)."
Avery signed with Island Def Jam, and her debut album is to be released in early 2012; after Motown Republic Group shut down she was transferred to Universal Republic Records.
On November 23rd, 2011, Avery announced through her official Twitter page that she had signed a new contract with Island Def Jam and is no longer with Universal Republic Records.
